Updating the CT-30 Contraband Team Detection Kit

The CT-30 Contraband Team Detection Kit from Campbell/Harris Security Equipment Company (CSECO) has everything you need for efficient and results-oriented anti-contraband operations. If you have not used the kit yet and are not familiar with it, here’s what it contains:

  • Buster K910G density meter (it used to be the Buster K910B density meter)
  • FV-Series Articulated Fiberscope
  • PN-Series Inspection Probe Kit
  • Leica Laser Range Meter
  • PM-10 Extension Inspection Mirror with High Intensity Flashlight
  • CT-30 Customer Carrying Case with Wheels

However, CSECO still aimed to improve the kit by upgrading it to CT-40 Contraband Team Inspection Kit. Basically, it is just like the CT-30 kit but only with the addition of the Perfect Vision V20 Videoscope Inspection System, which replaces the FV-Series Articulated Fiberscope.

Even though we know that you have loved the old fiberscope, the Perfect Vision V20 Videoscope Inspection System promises to perform even better than the former.

Fiberscopes typically feature a small eyepiece which you can look into while inserting the flexible optical fiber bundle into an item or area suspected of carrying contraband. But in the Perfect Vision V20 Videoscope, there’s no eyepiece, but instead it features a large, multi-directional, high-resolution color LCD monitor which also includes a push-button dimming and digital zoom feature. No need to squint into anything because the large display of the Perfect Vision V20 Videoscope allows you to have a clearer look into the area without losing visibility to your surroundings. The display produces clearer images without causing you eye fatigue.

The videoscope’s long, thin and flexible articulating shaft is protected by a fuel-resistant coating. It ends with a powerful LED light source which is ideal for inspecting in darker areas, or during nighttime inspections. The difference between the Perfect Vision V20 videoscope and the fiberscope is that the former uses a high-quality chip video technology in the tip construction instead of the typical glass fibers that the fiberscope has. This makes the Perfect Vision V20 Videoscope more durable, and less likely to suffer damage that leads to less frequent and costly repairs. Fiberscopes have glass fibers which tend to break easily, especially when used often.

The Perfect Vision V20 Videoscope Inspection System is the first visual inspection tool to have met the Underwriters Laboratory (UL) safety requirements and thus is certified safe to use in hazardous environments.

The Buster density meter, as we all know, is the “gold standard” of contraband detection. The Buster K910B has been upgraded to the new Buster K910G, which uses the same technology – the low intensity gamma radiation emitter and back scatter scintillation detector for quick and accurate scanning. But compared to the K910B, the K910G has no lead-based components and its radioactive source is now 25% less than most density meters on the market – making the Buster safe for humans and the environment!

The Buster K910G is a user-friendly tool – just hold it against the object you are about to inspect and start scanning it. Turn the Buster on by squeezing its trigger. When you wave or sweep the Buster across the object you’re scanning, it will make a beeping sound if the Buster detects a noticeable change in the object’s density. In the Buster’s LCD display, you can also see the change in the object’s density in numbers. Once the Buster positively detects the contraband hidden inside that object, it will sound off an alarm that alerts the user to the contraband.

Also included in the CT-40 kit: the 5-piece PN-Series Inspection Probe Kit, the Leica Laser Range Meter®, the PM-10 Extension Inspection Mirror with High Intensity Flashlight, and the CT-40 Customer Carrying Case with Wheels. Note: The Buster-On-A-Stick Extension Pole is NOT included in the kit.

Law Enforcement Product News Announces CT-30 Kit Uprade

Law Enforcement Product News’ July/August issue features a write-up about the upgrade of the CT-30 Contraband Team Detection Kit to the CT-40 Contraband Team Detection Kit.

Law Enforcement Product News is a 32-page digital magazine which is an affiliate of Officer.com. It features articles about the tools and equipment that law enforcement agents use on a regular basis, as well as other related information that officers will find useful.

Campbell/Harris Security Equipment Company (CSECO) released the CT-40 Contraband Team Detection Kit in February 2014 as an upgrade to the previous CT-30 Contraband Team Detection Kit which had been in use by most of law enforcement and governmental agents across the United States. Among equipment included in the CT-30 kit are the Buster K910B density meter, the FV-Series Articulated Fiberscope, and the PN-Series Inspection Probe Kit.

The CT-40 kit contains most of the same equipment as in the CT-30, only it replaces the Buster K910B and with the updated version of the Buster, the Buster K910G; and the Perfect Vision V20 Videoscope Inspection System which replaces the FV-Series Articulated Fiberscope.

CSECO takes heed of the law enforcement agents’ needs carefully and puts what they hear into practice. When the company heard that officers would like a visual inspection tool that was more user-friendly and safe, the CSECO team immediately went to work. The collaboration resulted to the Perfect Vison V20 Videoscope Inspection System. It features the latest technology and is the first videoscope to be certified “safe” by the Underwriters Laboratory (UL) for use in hazardous areas such as gasoline fuel systems and tanks.

The Perfect Vision V20 Videoscope has some of the features of the FV Series Fiberscope – such as the thin and flexible articulating shaft with a fuel-resistant tungsten coating, the powerful LED lighting built into the shaft, and long-lasting rechargeable batteries to ensure continuous inspections. But the difference is that the Perfect Vision V20 Videoscope has a 5-inch, multi-directional color LCD screen which enables for one-unit operation – no need for bothersome attachments that officers would use with a fiberscope.

The large display also allows the officer to see images clearly without losing visual awareness of his surroundings. Another concern that the officers felt towards the FV-Series Fiberscope was that they tended to lose visibility to their immediate surroundings because they had to keep their head down squinting through the fiberscope’s eyepiece during the inspection – something which, the officers felt, was a safety concern. The Perfect Vision V20 videoscope’s large LCD display enables the officers to keep their heads up so that they can be aware of what’s happening around them.

The Perfect Vision V20 videoscope’s LCD display also features the push-button dimming and digital zoom that provides 10 times higher than the resolution of the leading fiberscopes – which means that the videoscope offers clearer views and more vivid colors. These factors result in images that provide more detail which allows the officers to confirm the presence of contraband during the inspection on-the-spot, rather than having to for wait the inspection to be over and then review it on the videotape. It also has digital photo and video capability which means no need for camera attachments.

The most important feature that Perfect Vision V20 videoscope provides is that it guarantees safety. It is now certified “safe” by the Underwriters Laboratory (UL), the world leader in product safety, which attests that the equipment has met the UL safety requirements.

The safety feature in the Perfect Vision V20 Videoscope is CSECO’s response in addressing the officer’s safety issues. CSECO president Tony Harris indicated that CSECO worked closely with the UL to make sure that the equipment is safe to use even in high-risk areas such as fuel tanks. He further added: “We want our users to feel confident they can use the videoscope as they always have their fiberscopes.” At the time of the original publication, no other visual inspection tool had received such safety certification other than the Perfect Vision V20 Videoscope, and CSECO is undoubtedly proud of this achievement.

Damaune Journey, CSECO’s Director of Global Business Development, had something to say about the newest update on the CT-30 kit, “The CT-40 will provide everything officers have come to love about the CT-30, and then some. If you found the fiberscope useful just wait until you use the Perfect Vision Videoscope.”

The Buster K910G, on the other hand, is the latest iteration of the Buster K910B. The Buster K910G still retains the features of the K910B, including the low-intensity gamma radiation emitter and scintillation detector to quickly scan vehicles or areas suspected of carrying contraband. The Buster K910G, like the old version, is designed in a way that it enables the user to determine whether a contraband is hidden in a standard vehicle within five minutes, or an average-sized room within 10 minutes.

Just like the K910B, the K910G still can detect contraband hidden in various kinds of materials such as wood, metal, reinforced plastic, and even dirt. This scanning capability will never be achieved by other contraband detectors using radio wave, microwave, millimeter wave and ultraviolet wave. You can also count on the Buster K910G as it can detect and locate many kinds of hidden contraband: narcotics, illegal drugs, currency, weapons and explosives.

The Buster K910G still has the RAD-Aware radiation detection technology that enables first responders to establish safety borders to protect himself and other people from the imminent dangers of radiation leaks such as from dirty bombs.

What has changed in the K910G is that it is now made even safer. All lead-based components have now been removed, and the radioactive source is 25% less than that of any other density meters. It proves that the Buster is now the safest density meter ever on the market!

If you loved the CT-30 Contraband Detection Team Kit, you will love the CT-40 Contraband Detection Team Kit even more with the addition of the updated Buster K910G and the Perfect Vision V20 Videoscope!

Use of Drug and Explosive Detection Videoscope to Save Lives

Use of Drug and Explosive Detection Videoscope to Save LivesFederal, state and local law enforcement who have access to drug and explosives detection equipment, know their use can help save lives. This equipment may include the CSECO FV Series Fiberscope which can also be called a videoscope or a boroscope. Some may think this statement is stretching the importance of this technology, but US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents and police offices will tell you it’s true. The information below explains some ways the drug and explosives detection equipment helps to save lives.

Unfortunately, there are many people who transport contraband, including explosives or drugs, around the country in their vehicles. Since they hope to avoid detection, they hide the contraband in unusual places including inside spare tires, wrapped and stuffed in a gas tank, or hidden compartments inside the vehicle’s seats. These are only a few of the locations law enforcement officers have found contraband. More obvious places to transport contraband would be a backpack, box or other container normally found in vehicles.

To avoid tearing apart every vehicle they suspect may contain contraband, CBP and other law enforcement use contraband detection technology to locate contraband. CSECO manufactures and sells the FV Series Fiberscope, CT-30 Contraband Detection Team Kit and Buster K910B Density Meter. With these contraband detectors, the agencies are able to detect contraband without using invasive means. An abnormal reading will lead agents and officers to investigate the vehicle further. They may remove seats, run the Fiberscope into small openings such as behind heating vents and inside doors, or they may remove a large speaker to access drugs or explosives that are hidden inside. More than 40,000 people die from illegal drugs each year, so every time an officer locates and removes illegal drugs to they don’t reach the streets, they are helping to save lives.

One of the main pieces of technology law enforcement agencies use is the FV Series Fiberscope. It can peer inside small spaces like behind door panels, behind dashboard vents or inside a fuel tank. The Fiberscope was designed with a heavy-duty tungsten skin that is resistant to gasoline and diesel fuel so it can be submerged into a fuel tank to see if anything other than fuel is inside the tank. The high-intensity LED lighting and two-way articulation allows users to see the contents of even the darkest corners.

When the Fiberscope is used with the Buster K910B Density meter, considered by many to be the best contraband detector available, even more illegal drugs or explosive components can be found. The Buster detects any number of types of contraband – cash, illegal drugs, radioactive materials and more. Using the FV Series Fiberscope with the Buster allows agents to help save lives by being able to seize possible explosive components and illegal drugs off the streets and away from potential criminals.
